Thai Food...Yum Yum

It's pretty amazing how one's perspective and taste could change in just 6 weeks of being in a foreign land. For one, i used to detest Thai food after an unforgettable bad experience at Thai Express. However, i have grown to miss them so much after i came back from my Thailand field studies. In fact, i have grown to have a distaste for local food, thinking that they are too bland for my liking. It seems like i have assimilated into the Thai food culture, liking really sweet and spicy stuff. Oh... speaking of which, i missed Khao Soi and the ice milk tea the most. I think i'm going down to Goldenmile one of these days to eat real authentic Thai food.

Krung Thep

The city of angels, the great city, the eternal jewel city, the impregnable city of God Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukam

Back

Yes, i am back from my 6-week field studies in Thailand and man did i felt weird stepping out of the Budget Terminal. It was so strange that 6 weeks passed by in a twinkling of an eye and i could still vividly remember that 6 weeks ago i was at the same terminal taking the flight to Krabi. This field studies has been a fantastic and enriching experience and hope i can blog more on my thoughts later.

Am missing Northern Thailand already... sigh

Afternoon in Night Bazaar

Feeling so tired. So so tired. So so so tired. I'm practically nodding my head while typing this blog even though it is 1539 in the afternoon. Thinking of the 11-page report which we have to submit on saturday makes my stomach quiver.

Maybe i shouldn't complain so much. But i seemed to caught the sleepbug disease or something.

Am looking fwd to chiangrai already... =)

Chiang Mai - Day 24

These few days were spent doing fieldwork in Chiangmai. Yesterday was spent conducting site observation and interview at the local Chinese-Muslim community and today was spent conducting interviews at Chiangmai University and Yunnan Clan Association. One thing that struck me most is how friendly and warm the Chiangmai people are. My friend Hudah and I were given free rides from kind souls over here and i really love the culture over here. People here are so willing to help out one another and they wouldn't mind sacrificing abit of their time and effort to help those who are in need, even the foreigners. This is something which i really hope to bring it back to Singapore. This warmth and hospitality towards those who aren't even your own race or colour.

I was just talking to Jared and we wouldn't mind coming back to Chiangmai again for a 'real' holiday. Haha. Seriously! i mean for those who wants to go for a tour in Thailand, i do suggest Chiangmai to be one of the MUST GO places. You ought to delete Bangkok off your itinerary list to include Chiangmai inside.

Just came back from a sumptuous dinner at this restaurant 'Jerusalem'. It was my first time eating Jewish food and frankly speaking, it was fantastic. However, i was pretty interested to find out how come the Jew owner (Sarhaveet) would want to come down to Chiangmai to set up a small restaurant here.

Hope you guys ain't missing me so much over in Singapore. =P

Update from Chiangmai

Dear all, I'm currently in an internet shop beside Sri Pat Guesthouse in Chiangmai typing this blog entry. It's a pity that there is no wireless in the hotel so i have no choice but to come down here to use internet. But anyway, i really love Chiangmai so so much. I totally adore the weekend night market here... the food were fantastic and the stuff to buy were so CHEAP. I couldn't believe it. One packet of soya milk (which i have for breakfast every morning) is only like 5 baht. GOSH!!

Sorry man...i seemed to be suffering from writers block. Can't seem to know what to blog also. Shall load up some pics if i have the opportunity to. =)
